Project 2 F15

Tile Project 2: Impressed Geometries

Design a system that results in a grouping of tile that includes tile shapes that are not square. To achieve differently shaped tiles you will be blocking off entire parts of your mold. Also work with multiple layers of inserts to achieve lines and shapes in your design. Think about topography, texture and pattern. Two dimensionality and three dimensionality.
Inserts can be made from plaster, plywood, wood, masonite, chipboard, mat board, etc. You may need a release agent so that your inserts do not stick to your tiles. This should be some type of thin fabric that can be pulled off the clay easily. We will experiment and find what works best.

You may find or make texture that you can pour plaster on to add different surfaces to your tiles.

Like our current project, design tiles with shapes that will intersect when the configuration of the inserts changes. These can be drawn on the computer or by hand.

If they are drawn by hand they must be perfectly accurate drawings on graph paper using a compass, square, ruler, french curves, etc. We can use the laser cutter to cut masonite and chipboard inserts. Use the wood shop to cut thicker wood inserts to make the tile shapes.

Like our current project, this is an exploration. We will come up with initial ideas, pursue them, evaluate, revise and remake until the final piece is resolved.
