Surface and Symmetry
This project will begin as an open exploration of surface and pattern using a plaster press mold.
You will begin the project by finding or altering materials that can be placed into the mold in order achieve different surfaces and patterns. Alter the surface of the plaster insert or cut it apart but leave the walls of the mold unaltered. The height and width of the mold is fixed but the depth can be adjusted.
In general, porous materials will work better than non-porous materials but feel free to try anything. You will begin by making a variety of pairs of tiles.
After evaluating and refining your ideas you will design and construct a final piece using multiple repeated tiles. Make a piece using a minimum of 9 tiles (square)
